What our members say about their experiences at CIS Toastmasters

You saved me, you saved me, you gave me a second chance

“Toastmasters has changed my life and for that I am eternally grateful. I came here looking for an audience to listen to my story. It was never about learning how to speak to an audience. Little did I know when I signed up that by the time Ralph Smedley was done with me I will be able to walk tall with my head held high like it was hanging on pieces of string. I didn’t know that I will be so assured in my engagements at work and in society as a whole that it would change how others view me. I didn’t know that I was going to learn how to balance confidence with humility and restraint.”

Come to Toastmasters, grab the largest popcorn and fizzy drink and watch the blockbuster that is your life transform beyond your wildest dreams.”

“It was a great honour and priviledge for me to be afforded the opportunity to attend the Wintercon & Club Officer training on the 20th June 2015.

I attended the training because I felt that every club member must be in a position to perform any role that gets assigned to them at any particular time without having to deal with ‘butterflies’ in their stomach. We come to Toastmasters meetings and we join the organization to deal with the fear of speaking in public and lack of confidence, so for me it was an opportunity to deal with these setbacks in a different setting, officer training.

I was even prepared to pay for myself and you can imagine my excitement when I found out the club was going to pay for me.

The day went even better than I had imagined. I had loads of fun and I learnt a lot. I was inspired by the great stories that were told. I could not believe that the same people who were in charge of the Wintercon and training once had a fear of speaking in public by the way they are now so articulate and comfortable in front of a crowd. I confirmed what I know, that anything is possible. I was most inspired by the theme of the day, ‘Create your legacy by fulfilling your potential.”

Stephanie Patmore had this to say after her first visit:

“I had a fantastic evening that surpassed any expectations or preconceived ideas that I had about what Toastmasters was all about. I haven’t laughed so much in ages and everyone was so full of life and welcoming.
It was an absolute privilege to listen to the calibre of prepared speeches that were shared, from the enlightening and emotive content to the hilarious humour and skilful use of the English language.
It was a wonderful learning experience showing how the use of words, language, voice, constructive feedback and many other techniques can improve communication and public speaking – which I intend to use not only in my corporate career but in my everyday life.
It was a really fun night spent with great people and I will definitely be back for the next meeting to present my first prepared speech and to join CIS Toastmasters going forward.”

“I have finally completed my 10th and final (final but not so final) speech at Toastmasters. I am so touched as I look back at how far I have come since June 2013 (when I started Toastmasters). Not only did I learn how to speak, but I also learnt a lot about myself and found my true PURPOSE! I met people who believed in me more than I could ever believe in myself, people who saw the EAGLE in me, people who pushed me to reach my full potential. (I can go on and on)! I am HAPPY AND PROUD to have come this far. It hasn’t been easy, but my journey at CIS is one of the best things that have ever happened to me. Mind you, before Toastmasters I barely went anywhere on my own, that is how low my esteem and confidence were, but I now walk proudly with my head held high on my own even when I am nervous because that is what I was taught.
In a nutshell. I found true happiness through Tmi. I learnt a lot and it is an experience I cannot and will not trade for anything and it is all thanks to the Toastmasters’ family! I am ever so grateful and truly humbled.”
